Is my PDF uploaded to a server?+
No. The split happens in your browser, on your device. Your file is not sent, copied or kept by the site.
How do I say which pages to extract?+
Type page numbers and ranges, separated by commas: 1-3, 5, 8-10 gives pages 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10. A page asked for twice, a backwards range or a page that does not exist is flagged under the field, with the reason.
Can I change the order of the pages?+
Yes, with “Extract pages”: pages follow the order you type them in, and 3, 1, 2 puts page 3 first. To join several files in the order you choose, use the PDF merge.
What do the page numbers refer to?+
To the position of the page in the file: 1 for the first, 2 for the second, and so on. Some documents show another numbering (i, ii, iii for a preface, for instance); here, the position is what counts.
Why is there no preview of the pages?+
Showing thumbnails would mean loading a full PDF rendering engine into your browser, which the site has chosen not to ship. Splitting does not need one: it works by page numbers, which your usual PDF reader shows you.
Is there a limit on pages or size?+
No limit is imposed. The file is processed in your device's memory: a very large PDF may slow the browser down, and the tool warns you above 100 MB.
What about a protected or signed PDF?+
A PDF protected by a password or by restrictions cannot be split: its content is encrypted, and the tool flags it as soon as you drop it. A signed PDF can be split, but the resulting files no longer carry the signature, which only holds for the original file; a warning reminds you.
